Scottish Colourists Schools Poetry Competition

In partnership with Berwick Literary Festival we are launching a school’s poetry competition to celebrate our new summer exhibition Scottish Colourists from the Fleming Collection.

We hope this stunning exhibition will inspire your pupils to write poetry. There are teachers’ notes and pupil worksheets designed to help support you before and after a self-led visit to the exhibition with your class. The pupil worksheets are aimed at helping your pupils to look at the works in the exhibition as a source of inspiration to write poetry, relevant links to the national curriculum are given for the different Key Stages.

We would like to invite you to enter your poems into our poetry competition, you can enter up to 3 poems for each year group and there is an entry form below. The competition is being run in partnership with the Berwick Literary Festival and there are 4 categories:

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (ages 4-7)

Year 3 and Year 4 (ages 7-9)

Year 5 and Year 6 (ages 9-11)

Year 7 and Year 8 (ages 11-13)

Each category attracts a 1st prize of £30 in book tokens for the winner, with 2 runners up prizes of £10 book tokens. An expert panel from Berwick Literary Festival will select the winners and the winners will be announced during the festival, which is being held 20-22 October 2017.

Closing date for the poetry competition is Wednesday 11 October 2017.
